Louviers Federal Credit Union Opens First Delaware In-school Credit Union Branch in Newark High School

Monday, November 9, 2009, marked a milestone in Delaware and for Louviers Federal Credit Union. Working in partnership with the Business Technology Department of Newark High School, Louviers has opened a student-run credit union branch for on-campus students, staff, and faculty at the Newark, Delaware, school.

Phil Heckman, Director of Youth programs for the Credit Union National Association, acknowledged the accomplishment by stating: ÒCongratulations! Yours is the first reported in-school credit union branch in Delaware.Ó

The branch, operated by six Newark High School students and supervised by Louviers Marketing Coordinator, Faith Simpers, is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The students are learning real-world business applications through this unique financial education partnership with the Christina School District. In addition, there is a student advisory council being formed to advise the credit union on products and services most desired by the students. A school-wide contest is being planned to encourage the students to come up with a name and logo to give their branch its own identity.
