New Castle County, DE

Moving to Delaware? New Castle County offers an attractive variety of housing with people having the option of choosing Wilmington’s big city life, the small town charm of Newark, Delaware City and New Castle or the suburban way of life in Pike Creek, Hockessin, and Brandywine Hundred. Tax friendly Delaware welcomes new residents with no sales tax and historically low property taxes. Generally, Delawareans can expect to pay roughly $1,200 a year in property taxes. If you live in an incorporated town you can expect to pay municipal taxes that will cover sewer, refuse removal, and other necessary services.

In education, the county offers five public school districts, one vocational-technical district, with parochial and private schools in all corners of the county. New Castle County is home to Goldey Beacom College, Wilmington University, Delaware College of Art and Design and the University of Delaware.

The County boasts the Christiana Care Health System of hospitals and care centers. Wilmington has become famous over the years as the Corporate Capital of the World and is the home of such multinational companies as DuPont, Astra Zeneca, and Wilmington Trust. Other large employers include Bank of America, Chase, Barclays, and AAA.

The county’s population has held steady over the years at approximately 500,000 residents. New Castle Countians enjoy a pleasant climate of changing seasons with average winter temperatures of 35 F and summer temperatures averaging 76 F.
