Middletown

Middletown, along with sister towns Odessa and Townsend make up what Delawareans simply call “M.O.T.” Middletown was incorporated as a town in 1861. The town epicenter is the four corners area where Main Street and Broad Street intersect. Broad Street ventures south and turns residential while the east-west Main Street offers the shopping, dining and the historic (and newly renovated) Everett Theater. Main Street offers a step back in time to the 1940s and 50s and was the backdrop for the motion picture “Dead Poets Society."

For the last decade and a half Middletown has been Delaware fastest growing region. A town center of just over 6 square miles Middletown has a population in town and the many surrounding subdivisions approaching 10,000, up from the more than 6,000 residents reported in 2000.

Middletown is home to the annual Peach Festival. Peaches were Middletown’s first export with the town receiving acclaim for the fuzzy fruit. Some of the large peach growing family homes still survive today and were noted at the time as being “Peach Mansions.” The peach trees have given way to development as Middletown continues to expand.

Middletown is a council-manager managed city with an elected mayor and city council.
