Odessa
Originally founded as Cantwell’s Bridge along the Appoquinimink River, the town
of Odessa has seen similar growth to that of Middletown. The town center
consists of 300 residents but the outlying communities are seeing rapid growth.
Founded as a port town, Odessa was a depot for Delaware grain export. The
18th century colonial architecture survives in the town center and is under the
watchful eye of the Historic Odessa Foundation. The foundation maintains five properties
known as the Historic Houses of Odessa. The houses are open for tours March
through December.
